Mock Study of BPS Tegal Regency: Learning from BPS Central Java Province and BPS Semarang Regency

December 22, 2023 | Other Activities

Copycat Study is one of the activities conducted by BPS Tegal Regency to improve the quality and capacity of employee work. With the Copycat Study, BPS Tegal Regency can learn from the experiences and good practices carried out by other BPS, both at the provincial and regency levels.

On December 20 to 23, 2023, BPS Tegal Regency sent twelve of its employees to conduct a Mock Study to BPS Central Java Province and BPS Semarang Regency. This activity aimed to learn two main things, namely the Thematic Publication of the 2023 Agricultural Census and Statistical Literacy.

The Thematic Publication of the 2023 Agricultural Census is one of the statistical products produced by BPS based on the results of the 2023 Agricultural Census. This publication contains data and analysis on various aspects of agriculture in Indonesia, such as land area, number of farmers, crop production, livestock, fisheries, and so on. This publication is important to provide accurate and up-to-date information to the government, business actors, researchers, and the general public regarding the condition of agriculture in Indonesia.

Statistical Literacy is the ability to understand, interpret, and use statistical data critically and effectively. Statistical Literacy is needed by all parties, both producers and users of data, to improve the quality and relevance of data, and to make informed decisions.
Statistical Literacy is the ability to understand, interpret, and use statistical data critically and effectively. Statistical Literacy is needed by all parties, both producers and users of data, to improve the quality and relevance of data, and to make evidence-based decisions. Statistical Literacy can also help people to be more aware and concerned about social, economic, and environmental issues related to data.

To learn about the Thematic Publication of the 2023 Agricultural Census and Statistical Literacy, the Tegal Regency BPS team visited the Central Java Province BPS Balance Sheet Team. The Balance Sheet Team is the team responsible for processing and analyzing the 2023 Agricultural Census data, as well as for compiling and presenting the Thematic Publication of the 2023 Agricultural Census. The Tegal Regency BPS team received explanations and guidance on the processes and methods used by the Balance Sheet Team, as well as examples of Thematic Publications of the 2023 Agricultural Census that have been made by the Central Java Province BPS.
In addition, the Tegal Regency BPS team also learned about Statistical Literacy from the Public Relations Team of Central Java Province BPS. The Public Relations Team is a team tasked with disseminating and promoting statistical products and services produced by BPS, as well as to increase public awareness and participation in statistical activities. The Public Relations Team of BPS Central Java Province has used various media and strategies to carry out its duties, one of which is by using podcast equipment. Podcasts are audio media that can be downloaded and listened to anytime and anywhere. Podcasts can be an effective means of delivering statistical information that is interesting and easily understood by the public.

On the next day, the Tegal Regency BPS team continued their mock study to Semarang Regency BPS. BPS Semarang Regency is one of the BPS that has successfully achieved the title of Corruption Free Region (WBK) and National Champion of Beautiful Village, Village Love Statistics. WBK is a predicate given by the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (Kemenpan-RB) to government agencies that have met the standards of corruption prevention, improving the quality of public services, and improving the performance of the apparatus. Desa Cantik, Desa Cinta Statistik is a program launched by BPS to encourage villages in Indonesia to be more active and creative in managing and utilizing village statistical data.
The BPS Tegal Regency team received many lessons and inspiration from BPS Semarang Regency on how to implement the principles of WBK and Desa Cantik, Desa Cinta Statistik. The team also had the opportunity to visit Delik Village, one of the villages that has won the National Champion of Beautiful Village, Love Statistics Village. There, the BPS Tegal Regency team could see firsthand how the village had developed various data-based innovations, such as village statistical information boards, village statistical applications, and village statistical socialization activities.

The Mock Study of BPS Tegal Regency to BPS Central Java Province and BPS Semarang Regency was a very useful and valuable activity for BPS Tegal Regency. With the Mock Study, BPS Tegal Regency can improve the knowledge, skills, and motivation of its employees to work better and more professionally. The Mock Study can also strengthen the relationship and cooperation between BPS Tegal Regency and other BPS, as well as with other related parties. BPS Tegal Regency hopes to be able to apply and disseminate the results of this Mock Study to all employees and stakeholders of BPS Tegal Regency, and to conduct another Mock Study in the future.
