February - March 2023 The Central Bureau of Statistics conducted a routine agenda for the 2023 National Economic Survey (SUSENAS). SUSENAS is one of the prestigious surveys from BPS. Susenas outputs include macro poverty indicators so that its implementation requires good preparation.
SUSENAS collects information on the "Amount" and "Value" of household consumption for 197 food commodities, beverages and cigarettes, and 122 non-food commodities. Information on the "Amount" and "Value" of commodities/goods is closely related to commodity/good prices because the "Value" divided by the "Amount" yields the price per standard unit of the commodity or good. Therefore, the standard unit price of a commodity is an important component in the collection and processing of Susenas data.
The price per standard unit of commodity is strongly influenced by the quality of the commodity/good and is also influenced by the availability of goods and the high level of demand. Therefore, the price used in the process of collecting and processing Susenas data is not a single value but a range of values called the minimum price and maximum price.
For this purpose, a Price Range Survey was conducted to collect the minimum and maximum prices of a commodity/good. Price Range Enumeration was conducted simultaneously with the implementation of Conversion data collection by identifying commodities that were usually purchased/consumed by households.
Furthermore, price data was collected from markets, mini markets, super markets, itinerant traders, street vendors, in the vicinity of the Susenas March 2023 enumeration work area, as well as price data on marketplaces/onlineshops and data from related agencies/institutions. The Price Range Survey for Susenas was carried out by 33 Supervisors at BPS Tegal Regency, both organic Supervisors and those from BPS partners.
Price Range Enumeration is expected to be the first step in producing accurate SUSENAS data. (RSD)
