Inaugural Event: Strengthening Statistical Literacy by BPS Tegal Regency

The inaugural event for Strengthening Statistical Literacy, organized by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in Tegal Regency, took place at SMA Negeri 3 Slawi on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Eko Rihanawati, S.Pd, the Curriculum Vice Principal of SMA Negeri 3 Slawi, explained that this initiative aims to introduce statistical literacy to high school students. The goal is to enhance their ability to understand numerical information or data presented informatively by BPS representatives.

During the event, Farras A Zulmi, S.Pd, and Novi Dwi Ambar, S.Pd, were appointed as School Statistical Agents. The theme of the session centered around the concept of poverty. BPS Tegal Regency invited guest speakers, including Firda Azzahrotunnisa (a representative from Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Statistik), Ratna Sari Dewi, SST, MM (from the Social Statistics Material Team), and Ika Efrillia, SE., MM (Chair of the Statistics Go to School Team).

The speakers engaged the students with an interesting presentation on the basic concept of poverty. Using language that was easily comprehensible to the high school students, they showcased an infographic related to poverty in Tegal Regency. The infographic was followed by an explanation of the poverty situation in the region. The hope is that this approach will foster a solid understanding of poverty concepts and improve numerical literacy skills.

Aligned with the spirit of the Merdeka Curriculum for high schools, SMA Negeri 3 Slawi aims to enhance numerical literacy in a simple, engaging, and easily digestible manner. Furthermore, this initiative will positively impact the overall competency of students who will face the Computer-Based National Assessment (ANBK) in the future. Let’s hope that such activities continue regularly and extensively, allowing numerical literacy to flourish in other high schools, especially across Tegal Regency. (Magang STIS)
