The Central Statistics Agency of Tegal Regency today, on September 26, 2024, held a ceremony to commemorate the 64th National Statistics Day (HSN) by conducting a ceremony together with all employees and the Women's Welfare Association of the Central Statistics Agency of Tegal Regency. The ceremony was led by the Head of General Affairs, Andi Kurniawan, SSt, Msi., with all ceremony officers from the General Affairs Subsection Team.
In his speech during the National Statistics Day Ceremony, Andi Kurniawan mentioned that the history of the Central Statistics Agency began with the Statistical Office, first established by the Department of Agriculture, Crafts, and Trade in February 1920 in Bogor. This office was tasked with processing and publishing statistical data, especially related to customs and excise. In September 1924, the institution was renamed Centraal Kantoor Voor de Statistiek (CKS or Central Statistics Office) and relocated to Batavia. The Central Statistics Office, in addition to administrative fields, also included sections handling General Affairs, Trade Statistics, Agricultural Statistics, Craft Statistics, Conjunctural Statistics, and Social Statistics. Legislative products produced at that time included the Volkstelling Ordonnantie 1930 (Staatsblad 1930 Number 128) which formed the basis for the 1930 Population Census, and the Statistiek Ordonnantie 1934 (Staatsblad Number 508) concerning statistical activities.
The enactment of Law Number 7 of 1960 concerning Statistics marked an important moment in the transition from colonial statistical products to national statistics. Therefore, September 26 was subsequently designated as Statistics Day celebrated annually.
With the progress and development of the times, the need for statistical data has become increasingly important and diverse. Hence, improvements to existing legal instruments were necessary, leading to the enactment of Law Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics on May 19, 1997, which also changed the name of the Central Statistics Bureau to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
The ceremony proceeded solemnly, conveying messages from the leadership of the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency to maintain the quality of data produced by the BPS in order to achieve "QUALITY STATISTICS TOWARDS A GOLDEN INDONESIA." (Tri)
